How to Manage Passwords Easily & Securely — ’1 Password’

Managing passwords is a pain for me.  I used to feel like I either had to have a document on my computer to remember all my passwords OR I had to have the same password for EVERYTHING (or slight variations of the same password).

Each entity I work with (Short & Hat, Hoptocopter Films, Everyday Filmmaker, iPhone 4 Filming, and a large list of clients) has a Google, YouTube, Facebook, PayPal, etc. account and how the heck are you supposed to securely manage all the passwords?  If it’s on your computer, how do you find it from your phone?  If it’s on your computer, how do you keep it secure?  If you use the same password for everything… stop.  A friend of mine (Thank you Jared C!) suggested 1 Password and it’s been a HUGE help.

I started using 1Password to manage my passwords securely.  This program makes all your passwords securely available on your computer and on your phone or iPad.  You set one secure password to manage all the passwords (obviously you want to make this VERY secure and different than any other password) and you’re set!

My favorite feature is the Go&Fill function which takes you to the website you want to go to, logs you in, and takes you to the screen you’d like to get to.  If you’re creating a new password, it will generate one for you automatically.  It also has a feature built in that stores identities and Credit Card information to automatically fill in on websites if you make a lot of online purchases.

1 Password for the computer costs $39.99 with a full money-back guarantee.  They have a trial version available to assess if it works for you.

It’s a pretty amazing little app that helps balance the stress of life’s password problems securely.  It’s saved me a ton of time and stress of lost passwords.  No more clicking the ‘forgot password’ button either!

Has anyone else had a good or bad experience with 1 Password?  Let us know if you have another good way of managing passwords!

I have been using 1 Password for over a year. I don’t know what to do without it! Each site requires different passwords, 1 capital, 1 number, 1 letter, 8 characters. So hard to keep up with, but not with 1 Password!
