Mike the Headless Chicken!

Nestled right next to our hometown of Grand Junction, Colorado, is a much smaller town by the name of Fruita.  It’s a quaint little agricultural town.
Quiet.
Nothing special.

But, it can boast of one thing.
A physical anomaly so weird it’s actually in the St. Augustine Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum.
And that’s...Mike the Headless Chicken.

Now, we’ve grown up with the Mike the Headless Chicken Festival which includes the Mike the Headless Chicken 5k Run and the Mike the Headless Chicken Dance Contest, amongst many other festivities, so the weirdness of Mike the Headless Chicken hadn’t impressed itself upon us until we saw Mike himself amongst several other animal deformities such as a cow with six legs and a lamb with two heads.

But I tell you, I probably scared half the people walking by the exhibit with my excitement.  Seeing this little bit of home (albeit, a strange part of home) was such an unexpected and welcome sight!

Sadly, after comparing pictures of the real Mike the Headless Chicken (who was white) with these pictures, we discovered that this was not the real Mike the Headless Chicken.  The real one is probably buried somewhere deep in the rich soil of Fruita, Colorado.

As it should be.
