A Book: A People’s History of the United States

A Different Perspective on History

Our tour guide on the trolley of St. Augustine suggested we read A People’s History of the United States by Howard Zinn.  It was $14.99 in iBooks, and I am now reading it to Seth on the iPad as we drive.

Before you pass this book off as some dull history lesson, hear us out!  We’ve read the first chapter, and already, we love it.  Zinn writes from the perspective of the marginalized people groups of America from the time of Columbus to now.  It’s so interesting traveling around and seeing the places the book talks about after gaining a perspective the history books won’t give you.

(By the way, the iPad is the way to go for reading while you travel. It’s backlit, so you can read in the car at night and don’t want to mess with inconvenient book lights.  You also don’t have to lug around a ton of books with you while you’re on the road.”
